Cargo eScooter, test run in Burgdorf

Following the «Emission-free to the city centre» pilot phase, CAMION TRANSPORT is testing the suitability of a Cargo eScooter for everyday use for ecological fine distribution on the last mile in the Burgdorf area for four weeks from July 2020.

The company hopes to achieve efficient distribution in urban areas for small consignments.

The test is intended to prove the suitability for everyday use of the electrically powered «vRBike». It will also provide answers as to how the vehicle can be optimally integrated into dispatching. One of the biggest challenges will be to put together the small consignments into economically viable tours. After all, the choice of means of transport must function operationally. In contrast to the pilot phase in St. Gallen, the fine distribution will not be handled by partners but by CAMION TRANSPORT itself. Three tours per week are planned to start with.

The content and implementation of this test run, as well as the Cargo eScooter, were presented to a selected group of city and community representatives from the test area and media representatives at the Burgdorf branch on 8 July 2020. Following the welcome from branch manager Federico Herrera, Régis Lanfranconi, Sales Manager Burgdorf, explained how the test run can provide the necessary facts and findings on the «Emission-free to the city centre» concept. Stefan Berger, Mayor of Burgdorf, emphasised the link to Burgdorf as a town with the European energy label. He accentuated the importance of such environmentally friendly logistics solutions and showed great appreciation for the CAMION TRANSPORT initiative.

The participants followed the presentations and explanations with great interest. The information event was rounded off with a tour of the railway and handling hall and the presentation of the Cargo eScooter. Small test drives were not to be missed and much enjoyed.

Further test runs are also planned at other CAMION TRANSPORT locations.
